Updated October 2026
The WhatsApp messages online stores send, and what each costs
Meta prices each message by its category. US rates shown, effective 1 October 2026; every country's rate is on the pricing pages.
| Message | Meta category | Sent by | Per message (US) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Order confirmation | Utility | Shopify order created or paid | $0.0034 |
| Shipping and delivery update | Utility | Shopify order fulfilled | $0.0034 |
| Abandoned-cart reminder with the checkout link | Marketing | Shopify cart abandoned | $0.025 |
| Sale, launch or back-in-stock campaign | Marketing | Campaign to an opted-in list | $0.025 |
| Answers to customer questions | Service (free reply window) | Your team, in the shared inbox | Free for 1,000/month, then $0.0034 |
Meta decides a template's category when it reviews it; a message written as an update but containing an offer is billed as marketing.
Four WhatsApp automations every store should run
- 1
Order confirmed
When Shopify reports a new or paid order, send the customer an order confirmation template with the order number and total.
- 2
Order shipped
When the order is fulfilled, send the shipping update. Customers stop emailing to ask where their parcel is.
- 3
Cart left behind
When a checkout has gone an hour without an order, Shopify's cart counts as abandoned and Mywa sends a reminder with the recovery link to customers who agreed to marketing messages.
- 4
Questions go to a person
Any reply lands in the shared inbox, assigned to whoever is on shift, so a customer asking about sizes gets an answer before they leave.
A real monthly bill, by where your customers are
A store with 2,000 orders a month (4,000 order and shipping updates), 6,000 cart reminders and campaign messages and 2,000 replies, at Meta's rates effective 1 October 2026, with 1,000 free replies.

What Meta allows stores to send
Meta's policies keep WhatsApp useful for customers, and following them keeps your number healthy:
- 1
Get opt-in for marketing. Order updates go to buyers who gave their number at checkout; offers and cart reminders need their agreement to marketing messages.
- 2
Keep updates pure. An order update with a discount code in it is billed, and reviewed, as marketing.
- 3
Some products can't be sold on WhatsApp under Meta's Commerce Policy, including weapons, drugs and certain health products.
- 4
Make opting out easy. Mywa handles opt-out replies and stops marketing to that contact.
